Nitin working from his home office

I'm Nitin, a software engineer with 16+ years of experience, working remotely since 2020. Need help to land a remote job?

It cost me lakhs of money and 8 months to figure out how remote hiring works. You can start with what I learned.

Read my story

How I got my first remote job, mistakes included

From 2019 to my first offer in 2020. Twelve chapters, most of them about getting it wrong.

  1. Illustration of a small coin stack beside a much taller one under a globe

    012019

I found out remote jobs paid 3x to 4x more

Same skills, same laptop, same city. The only difference was who I worked for. That one fact changed what I wanted from my career.

  2. Illustration of a maze with a question mark

    022019

I had no idea how to prepare

Nobody around me had done it. I didn't know what a remote company looked for, what to put on a resume, or where to even apply.

  3. Illustration of an online class on a laptop with rupee coins flying out

    038 months

I joined online classes and spent lakhs of money

Eight months of evenings and weekends. Some of it helped. A lot of it was generic advice that had nothing to do with remote hiring.

  4. Illustration of paper planes flying out from a stack of applications

    04Month 1

    I started applying

Job boards, company career pages, cold messages on LinkedIn. I sent applications every single day.

  5. Illustration of an empty inbox tray beside a clock

    05Months 1 to 3

    Three months of silence

Not a rejection. Not a reply. Nothing. That silence is harder than a no, because you don't know what to fix.

  6. Illustration of a resume marked up with a red pencil and crumpled drafts

    06Months 3 to 5

I rewrote my resume and LinkedIn again and again

Every version a little sharper. Fewer duties, more outcomes. Keywords that recruiters actually search for.

  7. Illustration of a video call with the red end-call button

    08Month 5

I didn't clear all the rounds

I got through some of them. Then I hit a round I simply wasn't ready for.

  8. Illustration of a stack of books and an arrow missing the target

    09After that

I prepared harder, the wrong way

I studied what I thought they'd ask. It wasn't what they actually asked.

  9. Illustration of a calendar full of crossed-out days and one tick

    10The long stretch

8 to 10 companies said no

Different countries, different formats, same result. I was getting interviews, but I wasn't getting offers.

  10. Illustration of a checklist notebook and a lit bulb

    11The turn

I learned from every single failure

I wrote down every question, every mistake, every bit of feedback. Patterns started showing up, and I fixed them one at a time.

An offer from Import.io, a UK company

My first remote role. It's on my LinkedIn. Since then I've worked remotely for companies in the UK, Denmark and the US.

2019

The short version

I didn't get lucky. I got rejected until I figured out what remote companies want.

I paid for eight months of classes that taught me general interview prep. I applied every day for three months and heard nothing back. I rewrote my resume and LinkedIn more times than I can count, until an EU company finally invited me to interview in month five.

Then I failed. Again with the next company, and the one after that, eight to ten times in all. What changed things was not working harder. It was writing down every question and every mistake, finding the pattern, and fixing it. That's how the offer from Import.io came.

Everything I charge for on this page is a piece of that process, so you don't have to go through all of it yourself.

The five steps between you and a remote offer

The same order I went through, minus the detours. You can do all five with me or only the ones you need.

See services and prices
  1. Rewrite your resume

We turn a list of duties into a list of outcomes, and make sure applicant tracking systems can actually read it.

You leave with: A one or two page resume built for remote roles.

  2. Revise your LinkedIn profile

Headline, About, experience and skills, written around the words recruiters type into LinkedIn search.

You leave with: A profile that shows up when remote recruiters search.

  3. Prepare for interviews

The rounds remote companies run, the questions I was asked, and how to answer them in a structured way.

You leave with: Practised answers and a mock interview with feedback.

  4. Negotiate your salary

How remote companies set pay, what to say when they ask your expectation, and how to counter an offer without losing it.

You leave with: A number you can defend, and the words to ask for it.

  5. Land the remote job

Offer review, contract questions and the first weeks of working with a team in another time zone.

You leave with: A signed offer and a calm first month.

You don't start from zero. You start from where I ended up.

I spent money and months on trial and error: what to write, where to apply, how to answer, what to say about salary. Some of it worked. Most of it didn't.

You get the parts that worked, already sorted. No guessing which resume format gets past the filters, or which interview answers fall flat. That's the whole point of working with someone who has already been through it.

How it works

  1. Make the payment for the service you've chosen.
  2. Once the payment goes through, you'll be taken straight to my calendar.
  3. Pick a time that suits you for a 1-hour session on Google Meet. Please keep your camera on during the call.
  4. Paid for more than one service? Book a separate slot for each one, on different days.
  5. From my experience, doing everything in a single call isn't productive. Spacing the sessions out gives you time to act on each one.
